To heat the greenhouse, we use a combined heat and power system. A combined heat and power system provides electricity, CO2 and heat after combustion of gas. The CO2 is used to allow the plant to grow better. The electricity is fed back to the public grid. With the amount of electricity generated by plantation De Westhoek, about 4000 households can be provided with electricity every year.

Recycling of water and fertilizer
Water is also used as sustainably as possible. The rain water is collected in a water reservoir, ensuring that there is sufficient irrigation water at all times. Excess water is collected and stored in silos. This water is recycled, meaning that it is mixed with fresh water. This way, no water and fertilizer is wasted.
